OTHONIEL COSMOS ou les Fantômes de l’Amour

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of its designation as European Capital of Culture and the 30th anniversary of its inclusion on UNESCO's World Heritage List, the city of Avignon has entrusted an enchanting artist with the task of taking over its emblematic sites and museums, to reveal their richness and uniqueness.

A major event, a first on a national scale, the largest project ever conceived by the sculptor.
With this exceptional exhibition, spread over 10 unique locations, Jean-Michel Othoniel will present 260 works for Avignon.

He will take over the Palais des Papes, the Pont d'Avignon, the Musée du Petit Palais-Louvre en Avignon, the Musée Calvet, the Muséum Requien, the Musée Lapidaire, the Couvent Sainte-Claire, the Bains Pommer, the Collection Lambert and the Place du Palais.


The exhibition "OTHONIEL COSMOS ou les Fantômes de l'Amour" (OTHONIEL COSMOS or the Ghosts of Love) is a gigantic monumental journey through the city's free institutions and historic sites.
The artist has created works that will unfold from one site to the next, crossing sculpture and painting, bricks and pearls, astrolabes and fountains, gold and glass, totem poles and infinite knots. Built around the theme of passionate love, this unique exhibition is orchestrated like a grand operatic machinery, culminating in early August with an installation and performance in the Cour d'Honneur of the Palais des Papes, specially choreographed by Carolyn Carlson for Hugo Marchand and Caroline Osmont.
