Created in 1984 under the name "Journées Portes ouvertes des monuments historiques" by the French Ministry of Culture, their aim is to showcase the extraordinary richness of our heritage through original events, unusual tours and exceptional openings.

Come and (re)discover the exceptional monuments that have made Avignon famous the world over! Take advantage of free admission to the Palais des Papes and the Pont d'Avignon, and reduced admission to museums and private sites.

The event takes place on the 3rd weekend of September.

Two themes take center stage: "Heritage in Photography" and "Heritage in Peril: Revive, Resist, Reimagine".

Two days of guided tours, exhibitions, urban strolls and buildings opened for the occasion, divided between municipal museums and buildings, private museums, partner sites and religious heritage sites, will delight the curious young and old alike.
